Resistance

A few months ago, I purchased a book called “The War on Art” by Steven Pressfield (Link). It had been on my bookshelf collecting dust for the longest time. It was always on my “next book to read” list, but like with most things in life, I procrastinated on starting it. I thought that it was going to be a long and boring read. After all this time, I finally decided to start reading it yesterday. And to my surprise, it’s a quick and easy read. The book talks about the “Resistance,” which is that intangible thing that keeps you from starting on what you want to do creatively. It’s your subconscious telling you not to begin a certain project due to a number of reasons/rationalizations. I won’t give too much of it away, but I highly recommend that you pick this book up if you feel like you are in a creative rut or if you find it difficult to start on projects.

So here I am, on a Monday morning before work, forcing myself to sit in front of this laptop and type out some words in the hopes of building a habit. It doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty, just keep pressing those keys (or whatever it is that you are striving for). It’s not supposed to be easy or instantly gratifying, but in the long run, you will continue to build on something that you will look back on and be proud of. So here is to another blog post and to a continued journey full of growth, nonsense and clarity. As always, thanks for reading! Have an amazing week 🙂
